Family budgeting that respects the way you actually live

Per-month category budgets, daily pace, end-of-month forecast.

Most budget apps treat 'a month' as the calendar month — 1st to 30th. That doesn't match how SA salaries land, and it definitely doesn't match how the rates bill hits. HeyKit starts each budget month on the day you choose (25th by default), keeps each month as its own frozen snapshot, and shows you exactly where you are in real time.

Per-month budgets that don't drift

Editing your Groceries budget today only affects this month. October stays exactly as it was. Compare past months side-by-side and the numbers won't shift under you.

  • Each month is its own row — no global value that leaks backwards
  • Defaults from the category seed if no override exists
  • Click into any past month from the budget tab to see its actual budget vs spend

Daily pace + end-of-month forecast

After day 3, the dashboard shows where you'll land at current pace. Coral when over, mint when under. Tap the card to dive into category-level breakdowns.

  • Projected total = (spend so far ÷ days passed) × total days in budget month
  • Pace status pill on the budget hero (over / spending fast / on track)
  • Daily-budget-remaining figure so you know what's left per day

Built-in SA categories

Groceries/Toiletries/Pets, Fuel, Electricity (with units tracking), Unforeseen, Entertainment, Clothes — pre-seeded for a typical SA household. Add, rename, or change the budget for any category.

In practice

What you can do with this

Friday evening 'can we eat out?' check

Open the app. Dashboard tells you what's left in Groceries and Entertainment for the month + daily pace. No mental math.

End-of-month surprises, eliminated

The forecast card tells you on day 12 that you're tracking R1,800 over budget. Adjust now instead of finding out on day 28.

Year-over-year comparisons

Tap back to last November. The budget you had then is the budget you see now — no retroactive edits.

Common questions

Can I change a category's budget mid-month?

Yes — the change only applies from the current month onwards. Past months stay exactly as they were.

Why does the budget month start on the 25th by default?

That's when most South African salaries land. You can change it to any day in Profile — 1st, 15th, whatever matches your household.

Can I have multiple budgets for one category?

Each category has one budget per month. If you need separate buckets, just add a new category — they're cheap.

What happens to the budget for a category I delete?

Past expenses in that category keep their history, but the category vanishes from new entry. Budgets stop tracking there.
