Terms of Service

1. About the Service

HeyKit is a family budget and life management web application. It allows you to track household expenses, manage family schedules, store loyalty cards, scan receipts, and receive daily notifications via Telegram.

The service is provided as a progressive web app (PWA) that you can install on your device for offline access.

2. Account and Access

You sign in using your Google account. We do not create or store a separate password. By signing in, you agree to these terms.

Each account belongs to a family group. You may invite other Google account holders to join your family. All members of a family share access to the same expenses, budgets, schedules, and documents.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account. We are not liable for unauthorised access resulting from compromised Google credentials.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use HeyKit only for lawful, personal, household financial management purposes. You may not:

  • Use the service for commercial purposes or on behalf of a business
  • Attempt to access other families' data
  • Upload malicious files or attempt to compromise the service
  • Use automated tools to scrape or overload the service

4. Your Data

You retain ownership of all data you enter into the service, including expenses, receipts, documents, and schedules. We do not claim any rights to your content.

5. Receipt Scanning

The receipt scanning feature uses third-party AI services (Anthropic Claude or OpenAI) to extract text from receipt images. When you scan a receipt, the image is sent to the configured AI provider for processing. We do not store receipt images with these providers beyond the duration of the request.

6. Telegram Notifications

If you connect a Telegram account, we store your Telegram chat ID to send you daily schedule summaries, budget alerts, and reminders. You can disconnect at any time from your profile settings, which will stop all notifications and delete the stored chat ID.

7. Service Availability

We aim to keep HeyKit available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The app works offline as a PWA, so core functionality remains available even during server downtime.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

8. Limitation of Liability

HeyKit is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any financial decisions made based on data in the app, or for any loss of data beyond our reasonable control.

The service is a budgeting tool, not financial advice. You should not rely solely on this app for financial planning.

9. Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us. Upon deletion, all your personal data, expenses, receipts, and documents will be permanently removed.

If you are the last member of a family, deleting your account will also delete the family and all shared data.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Western Cape.
