Is HeyKit free?

Yes, HeyKit is completely free for families. There are no subscriptions, ads, or hidden charges. You'll never be asked to pay.

How does family sharing work?

Create a family by signing in with Google. Once set up, you can invite your partner or other family members via a secure share link. Everyone in the family can see and add shared expenses, view schedules, and manage the shopping list together.

How does the receipt scanner work?

Snap a photo of your receipt when adding an expense. The app uses AI (Anthropic Claude or OpenAI) to automatically extract the store name and total amount, so you don't have to type them in manually.

Does it work offline?

Yes. HeyKit is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that works offline once installed on your phone. You can view your data, add expenses, and check the family schedule even without an internet connection. Changes sync automatically when you're back online.

How do I install it on my phone?

Open the site in your phone browser (Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android), then tap 'Add to Home Screen'. It'll install like a native app with its own icon, no app store needed.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. Your data is stored privately in our database and is only accessible to you and your family members. We don't sell your data, show ads, track you across the web, or share anything with third parties. Our privacy policy covers full details of data handling under POPIA (South Africa).

Can I track staff who work at my house?

Yes. Add staff members (cleaner, gardener, nanny) with their pay rate. They get a unique clock-in link that uses GPS to verify they're at your house. You can view their hours, assign tasks, and get Telegram alerts when they arrive or leave.

What can I do with Telegram notifications?

Connect your Telegram account for daily morning summaries of the family schedule, afternoon pickup reminders, evening previews for tomorrow, and budget alerts when categories are approaching their limits. You'll also get alerts when staff clock in or out.

Can I subscribe to schedules in my calendar?

Yes. HeyKit generates an iCalendar feed of all your children's school hours and weekly activities. Subscribe in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar and the schedule shows up alongside your other events — pickups become visible the moment you book a meeting.

Can I add loyalty cards to my Apple Wallet?

Yes. Tap any loyalty card in HeyKit and add it to Apple Wallet — double-press the side button at checkout, scan, done. No more opening the app at the till.

Can I upload my municipal rates bill?

Yes. Upload your City of Cape Town rates bill PDF and the app automatically extracts rates, water, sewerage, refuse, and other charges. You can track trends over time and spot billing anomalies.

What happens if I lose my phone?

Nothing — your data is stored in the cloud. Just sign in from any device with your Google account and everything is there. No data is stored locally beyond the offline cache.

Can I export my data?

Yes. From Profile & Settings, you can export all your expense data. You can also request full account deletion at any time under POPIA.

What currency does it support?

HeyKit is designed for South African families and uses South African Rand (R). Multi-currency support may come in a future update.
